"The Night Before the Trial", "Tragedian in spite of himself", "The Harms of Tobacco", "The Jubilee", and "The Marriage Proposal", these "little" pieces are not short pieces, but miniatures where the action is condensed, the rhythm sustained and the situations brought to their climax.
Most of them come from short stories and were written between 1889 and 1890.
Examples of finesse and lightness, they enrich Chekhov's work in a remarkable way.
